Underfell An amazing fan game that is a reversal of Undertale

I am a huge fan of the game Undertale. And when I played Underfell I knew I had to write about it as soon as possible.  The game begins similar to Undertale with a dramatic difference. (Note:The game’s current state is Pre-Demo)

Well that escalated quickly…

Underfell is a fan made game that takes place in a different universe than Undertale. This world is a much darker place where the people’s motives and they’re character are dramatically different.

The theme the game tries to communicate is everywhere. It is in the atmosphere, characters, music and dialog. The stark contrasts begin with the game’s first npc encounter. You first encounter Flowey as he fears for his life. When you approach him he immediately begs the player for mercy.

Flowey Begging for mercy from the player.

You can see in this instance the opposite nature of the characters. At the very beginning of Undertale Flowey is a evil character, but in this universe the roles are reversed. Flowey is good in this universe. And his fate is in your hands.

If you manage to spare Flowey he is genuinely shocked. This one encounter truly explains the universe’s philosophy. In this world giving mercy is truly unheard of. Mercy is viewed as weakness that leads to death.

Over the course of the demo you can realize that Flowey truly has your best interests at heart. But his way of helping you is different from Toriel.

Flowey helping you with the first puzzle. Clearly providing a Toriel like role.

The main difference between Flowey and Toriel is that Flowey really wants you to be able to defend yourself. He appreciates the player’s kindness but in the cruel world of Underfell he views that as a lethal mistake.

But most important to Underfell will be your influence on the world. Since Underfell is a cruel and merciless world your choices will have a heavy Influence on it. I’l give another encounter as a perfect example.

During the game you encounter Toaddit. If you try really hard you can influence Toaddit and make him good. The game’s characters are colored coded. Red seems to likely resemble being mostly evil. And white seems to be mostly good.

This concept for the Underfell makes what will be an excellent fan game. and one that truly embodies the ideas that Undertale represents. And I will try my best to be the make this game the first one I review for the site. I ask that if you are interested in trying the Underfell Pre-Demo please give it a try.

Triple A Companies are terrible at picking up messages from Gamers.

It is completely true! Triple A Game companies are unable to effectively gather an accurate consumer consensus. Now what am I referring to? you may wonder. I am referring to games that people like, but do not agree with the series’s future decisions. I will give an example. Fallout 4 Is an excellent game as many can attest.

However, that is by judging the game in an empty vacuum. If you compare Fallout 4 to other games in the series you can see many changes fans disagree with tremendously. For Example, In Fallout 3 The game had a karma system to rate the ethics and morality of the player character. This was removed in Fallout 4 and many can claim that is makes the game a lesser product.

This situation is a one many gamers face with a lot of products they enjoy. They can enjoy a game, but hate its future decisions. They may even wonder how can I communicate this disagreement with the game’s leadership. This is when many decide to boycott the game to send a message. This idea is one that has good intentions, but does not always work as intended.

Say if you decided not to purchase the next Fallout game as an message for the series to return to its core roots. This message may not reach the Leadership. They can only see that Sales Data and interpret it from their perspective. So if fans of Fallout do not buy the next Fallout the company may see this Data and simply assume people do not want another Fallout game.

This creates an nearly unwinnable scenario for gamers for many situations they cannot boycott the game or the creators will assume it is not wanted anymore. But what about simply buying it you may wonder. This situation is to a bad decision. Because the game company’s perception will likely be one of complete support. They’re view will likely see all of their choices supported by the fans. This unwinnable scenario is why triple a game companies are terrible at gather gamers consensus.

I would like your thought on this matter. Please leave your thoughts in the comments below.
